I was the featured speaker last night for the Mississippi Case Worker's association meeting at Mississippi Baptist Medical Center. I spoke on the topics of Powers of Attorney, Medicaid Qualification for Nursing Home, and Veterans Aid and Attendance Special Pension Benefits.

Medicaid Home Waiver Program Expanded

Gov. Barbour recently announced the expansion of Mississippi's Medicaid Home waiver program.  This program allows seniors that are unable to live totally independently, but who can live without round the clock skilled care, to remain in their homes through some care provider subsidies provided by Medicaid.  This is good news for many of our state's seniors.  The last time that I checked on this waiver program for one of our clients, the waiting list being drawn from dated back to 2008.  The required clients like mine who could live at home with a little help to enter into a nursing home prematurely, and at a cost to Medicaid of about $6,000 per month.  The waiver program allows enough assistance for many clients to remain at home, at a cost to Medicaid of a little less than $1,000 per month.  More.

Veterans Benefits Course in Dallas

Victoria Collier just completed an excellent 3 day seminar on Veterans Administration beneifts available for our veterans.  Sadly, she announced that this will be her last.  I was fortunate enough to have attended her first VA seminar in 2008, at her final one in 2011.
