Well, my 5 year old X-31 runs so slow on some estate planning software that I use that I was forced to replace it. The problem with getting a new computer is not the price any more - it is all the time that it takes to re-install my programs and get the settings right. The lost productivity that this causes makes me delay all new computer purchases until absolutely necessary (like now). It also is the reason that I never change operating systems unless I absolutely have to (in fact I bought my new computer with Windows XP Pro just like the old one had). The one bright spot in getting a new machine has been the folks at www.onlinecomputerrepair.org. They have taken my settings from Outlook and other programs and migrated them to the new machine, saving me hours in lost productivity and frustration. I have blogged about this company before, but yet again I have found their service to be very valuable. For a small practitioner like me, this company is like having my own IT department.
